Vineyard altitudes in the Macedon Ranges range from 300 to 800 metres above sea level. Our region is cool to cold by world standards. The popular varieties of the region are delicate sparkling wines, refined Chardonnay and award winning Pinot Noir. In vineyards surrounding Lancefield, Romsey and Trentham delicate floral aromas can be found in the wine due to slow ripening during cool autumnal temperatures. As we move beyond Kyneton toward the rocky outcrops to the Cobaws more robust styles can be found with Shiraz and Cabernet.
Most producers are boutique, family owned and lovingly producing signature wines, some using age-old techniques. As a result we offer wine that is limited in quantity and exceptionally high in quality. The Macedon Ranges Vignerons Association has over 40 members growing 21 varieties and producing around 1500 tonne of grape crush collectively each year.
There are 27 cellar doors regularly open in our region but each November over 30 throw open their doors to welcome you to celebrate the bursting buds for the Macedon Ranges Wine + Food BUDBURST Festival.
We are on the road less travelled and yet still less than an hour from Melbourne.
